NATIONS a Fundamental Part of WorldSpeak 2024

NATIONS was proud to be a foundational pillar in the Canadian Language Industry Association's newly rebranded conference, WorldSpeak. Through our help with planning and our staff’s attendance, we were part of a large team that made this event a success. On May 23 and 24 at the Glendon Campus of York University, the best of the best globally and here at home came together to learn and get to know each other.

NATIONS staff attended the gala dinner and conference programming, which was both a team bonding experience and an important opportunity for professional development. The technologies, processes, and strategies learned at WorldSpeak will be used short-term and long-term to improve the experience of our clients.

Canadian Language Industry Association and NATIONS

The Canadian Language Industry Association (CLIA) is a not-for-profit association which promotes the Canadian language industry in various ways, including advocacy, promotion, professional development, and networking opportunities for its members. It is responsible for many advancements, including important industry accreditations. NATIONS renews some of its accreditations each year through CLIA.

For many years, NATIONS has been a proud member of the Canadian Language Industry Association. NATIONS CEO, André Palaguine, has been deeply involved with the organization for years as well, even prior to his appointment as our CEO. For 2024, he was newly appointed as CLIA’s Vice-President, and returns in his role as Chair of the Communications & Events Committee.

Our role in WorldSpeak planning and development

The Canadian Language Industry Association traditionally holds its annual conference and general meeting in April or May of each year. These conferences have bounced between major Canadian cities, and have been regarded as the premier language industry events in Canada.

Our business is now global, and André brought up the idea of giving the conference a more international flavour for 2024. The CLIA board enthusiastically embraced the concept, and set out to attract the best in international talent for the language industry as speakers and panel participants with a short runway of just a few months. This initiative was a success, with speakers and sponsors joining us from Central America, Europe, the United States, and Asia.

As Chair of the Communications and Events Committee, André led the branding and marketing efforts for the event and attracted a large number of in-person and virtual attendees, with over 150 people joining virtually, in-person, and as guests at the gala dinner. He expects that attendance to rise significantly next year as other global language industry leaders hear about the event and fit it into their calendar.

You can read more about the success of WorldSpeak here, and be sure to come and see us at the next one in 2025! The date and venue will be announced by Q4 of 2024.
